Austrian Environmental Award AGPB for Maison de l'Innovation in Nantes

International recognition for climate-adapted architecture

Our project, the Maison de l’innovation in Nantes, has been awarded the Austrian Green Planet Building Award (AGPB) – an international distinction. The prize is granted by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action in cooperation with ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA, the global business network of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.

Commissioned by La Poste Immobilier and designed by our Paris office, the building was conceived as a timber structure that combines ecological performance with architectural clarity.

Environmentally conscious design with natural ventilation, green façades, and minimal building systems

Its bioclimatic envelope, natural ventilation concept, and the deliberately reduced use of technical systems enable a simple yet highly effective energy strategy. Recessed balconies and terraces integrate greenery into the façade while also contributing to shading and microclimatic comfort:

  • Timber hybrid construction with a strong focus on material authenticity
  • Bioclimatic design with passive cooling, natural ventilation, and minimized building services
  • Greened balconies and terraces, along with measures to promote biodiversity
  • Multiple certifications (including HQE Excellent, BiodiverCity, E+C-, OsmoZ)

The recently completed building integrates seamlessly into the urban context of the Île de Nantes while maintaining a distinct architectural identity. Its slightly inclined geometry defines the edge along Boulevard Vincent Gâche, while generous, double-height ground-floor zones enhance its public presence.

Striking arch motifs, inspired by the historic bridges of the Vendée, are reinterpreted from the entrance area to the recessed balconies, creating a dynamic dialogue between tradition and contemporary architecture.

The result is a clear architectural statement that brings together material authenticity, spatial quality, and ecological intelligence.

Many thanks to our Paris team for this remarkable achievement!
