Pioneering architecture with brick: The Unionhilfswerk Berlin administration building was recently awarded the Grand Prize of the 'Deutschen Ziegelpreis 2024' in the 'monolithic' category in Munich.
Dr Rolf Bösinger, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Building, and patron of the event, opened the ceremony and presented the award to Prof. Gerd Jäger, partner at our Berlin office, project architect Mateja Mikulandra-Mackat, and client representative Norbert Bleisch from the Unionhilfswerk Foundation.
The jury was impressed by the building's simple elegance, clear design language, and holistic approach to sustainability. Special mention was made of the glass atrium, which visually connects the employees across all levels.
Comfort and optimal room conditions are achieved with minimal technology. This is based on the long-standing experience of the so-called '22·26' projects, which use the building’s high thermal mass to maintain a stable indoor temperature between 22 and 26 degrees Celsius.
We are pleased that our office in Lustenau has also been recognised for the new construction of the Hochpunkt Kreisklinikum in Böblingen.
Since 2011, the Bundesverband der Deutschen Ziegelindustrie e.V. (BVZi) has been awarding outstanding brick projects.
