Sustainable, innovative and beautiful - selected according to these three parameters, the 10th "Brick Award" of Wienerberger AG, a brick manufacturer committed to building culture, was presented recently in Vienna, Austria. The number of entries speaks for the reputation of the award, which honours the appropriate use of ceramic building materials: 789 projects from 53 countries were submitted. 50 of them made it to the final round.
In the category "working together", the office building 2226 Emmenweid for the client BRUN Real Estate AG in the Swiss town of the same name received the award.
2226 Emmenweid is particularly innovative because it does not require mechanical air conditioning (room temperatures between 22 and 26 degrees throughout the year). It is innovative because almost all current working environments can be realised between the façade and the core. The beauty of the building with a shell of plastered bricks results from the return to the elementary of architecture: the plastic tension of the volume combines statics and dynamics into an unagitated, timeless whole.
