Urban housing project “Alte Post”

A new urban landmark for the city of Achim

Our proposal for the urban housing project “Alte Post” at Achim railway station received unanimous approval from the planning committee, allowing us to move forward into the next phase of detailed planning.

Designed by our office in Hamburg, the residential building will provide approximately 35 apartments alongside commercial space and establish a strong new urban identity for this prominent site directly beside the station. The eight-storey building is conceived as a visible point of arrival for everyone entering or leaving the city Achim.

Its architectural expression responds to the scale and significance of the location while creating a vibrant and characterful addition to the urban fabric.

  • “When arriving in the city Achim by train today, you can clearly see the characteristic buildings of the northern town centre on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, where the town actually is, there is currently nothing visible,” explains Jana Fischer. “The new building is a clear statement: this is where Achim begins.”

Our ambition was to create a building that develops its own identity from every perspective. Defined by a robust brick façade, articulated volumes and flexible mixed-use spaces, the project is designed as an enduring piece of architecture for the city.

Special thanks to the client for their trust in our vision, and to our Hamburg team Justus Asselmeyer, Jana Fischer, Karsten Buchholz and Tchavdar Todorov for their dedication throughout the design process.
